So, you’ve designed the electric vehicle but for an increasing number of consumers, the next step is that they want to see how much energy they’re actually using, and how much it’s costing them. That information then needs to be transmitted to an app, a bank account for payment, or something similar.
As a result, electrical vehicle (EV) manufacturers cannot remain merely EV manufacturers. Instead, they need to be smart meter manufacturers too, which means they will be using these three essentials:
- High power terminal blocks
- DIN rail housings
- Flexible board-to-board interconnect systems
High power terminal blocks
Smart metering is a high-power application, so it’s important to choose a terminal block with a current rating that can cope. Operating too high a current for the terminal block will eventually lead it to overheat and malfunction.
To ensure all goes to plan and no overheating takes place, choose a terminal block rated for at least 150% of the maximum current expected in the system.

DIN rail housings
You must choose a DIN rail housing that is UL-94 compliant (the standard for flammability of plastics).
