What did Open System Solutions need?
Open System Solutions sells its building controls and underfloor heating and cooling systems throughout the UK and across the world. For its latest project, a portfolio of control panel enclosures (including room thermostats and sensors) was under development. Patrick Murphy, Sales Director at OSS, came across one problem.
“There was a plastic enclosure wall unit that we had been looking at,” he said. “But frankly, it didn’t look at all pleasing to the eye and was too small for our electronic PCB board. This product will be used in our Hydroline underfloor heating product portfolio, which we expect to be used widely across central London. So it has to be right aesthetically as well as functionally.”
How did Hitaltech help?
After searching for control panel enclosures on Google, Patrick found Hitaltech, who could offer him something more appropriate.
He explained: “Hitaltech had exactly the sort of plastic enclosures we were looking for.”
Jack Walker, Hitaltech’s Sales Engineer for the South of England, spoke to Patrick to explore Open System Solutions’ options. Custom printing was also part of the package that appealed to Patrick and OSS. He said: “It was important for us, when searching for the right control panel enclosures, to have the right quality laser etching on the plastic enclosures, so it became identifiably one of our range.”
Happy with the product and price Hitaltech could offer him, Patrick immediately ordered 500 prints, with the potential for thousands more thanks to our building automation systems.

Quick turnaround
Working closely with clients has been extremely challenging during the course of the Covid-19 pandemic. But that didn’t stop us from working to tight timescales to provide exceptional service to our clients.
“I knew there were projects out there that were already live,” explains Patrick. “So we had to work fast. A product range like this would usually take approximately two years to develop, test and get to market. But with Hitaltech’s support, we managed to do it in around eight months.”
An expanding role
The success of the Hydroline project with Open System Solutions has opened more doors for Hitaltech between the two companies.
“We’re now asking them to provide dials and the stems for some other thermostats we’re looking to put together,” Patrick said. “And we’re also looking at designing a new range of I/O electronic boards, which will use a new type of housing – a Hitaltech housing.”
